Video excerpt from Blind Country (1989), the film which marked ten years of collaboration between Ericka Beckman and Mike Kelley, inaugurated in 1979 with The Broken Rule.

The inspiration for the film’s title, H.G. Wells’ short story “The Country of The Blind,” portrays a character who stumbles onto community without sight, but cannot convince them of their lack, or use it to his advantage, and is forced to assimilate to their ways.

Blind Country is part of Performance/Anxiety, film programming inspired by the themes of repression and education in the work of Mike Kelley. Tickets are free for MOCA and Filmforum members.

This video art interruption arrives care of MOCA’s partnership with YouTube: MOCAtv, inserted into the familiar stream of popular culture. Through it, high art is getting embedded, through personal computers, into our homes. MOCAtv, loaded with original content for your viewing pleasure, is open 24 hours.
